VINTAGE RT: NEW YORK CITY IS THE PLACE WHERE

Tonight I’m DJing a vinyl set with a friend from NYC. In honor of that, and the fact that I’ll soon be living again in New York, I’m posting a vintage retrotransmission playlist from fall 2012 simply titled “NYC” featuring tracks from Suicide, The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Lounge Lizards, Swans, Patti Smith, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Jim Carroll, Dead Boys, Blondie, Ramones, New York Dolls, Richard Hell, Television, Misfits, Sonic Youth, and lots more. In other news, fresh retrotransmission playlists are in the works and will be up soon, so keep checking the site out every Monday and thanks for visiting!

This vintage playlist, from winter 2013, compiles the 60s and 70s psychedelic, experimental, rock, and garage roots of retrotransmission, much like Lenny Kaye’s Nuggets series documented garage’s influence on punk. The bands on this playlist, such as The Sonics, The Who, ? and the Mysterians, Captain Beefheart. CAN, and Hawkwind, etc. largely influenced people such as Patti Smith, Alan Vega and Martin Rev, and Genesis P-Orridge, respectively,  to make some of the most innovative and influential sounds of the 70s and 80s.
