VINTAGE RT: PUNKY REGGAE PARTY

I was reading this great interview with Brian Williams of Lustmord/SPK the other day, and in it he mentions his love of dub. Not surprising. Many writers have written about to what extent, for musicians creating the burgeoning industrial and punk scenes in the UK in the 70s, reggae and dub played a huge influence. John Lydon, Joe Strummer, and Ari Up were particularly taken with the music, and photographer Dennis Morris (whose photo is featured here) and the legendary Don Letts served as central connecting figures in merging the reggae and punk scenes. The sound of this vintage retrotransmission playlist “Punk and Reggae,” from spring 2013, is quintessentially summer to me. Do as John does, light one up, and enjoy.
